Physical apperances, according to sociolgist, can be very inportant in life. Apperances can help with self concept, finding a future husband/wife, it can even help with getting a job! People are often told that "looks don't matter" but to some extent they do. If you look friendly, you are more likely to get approached by people rather than if you have a frown or you look annoyed at the world.
Physical apperances can also effect out children. It can effect the way they look and how they are treated in the future. It can be a big deal to a kid if they are considered "ugly." It can effect them for the rest of their lives.
So I'm asking, do you think looks really do matter?

In society, looks definitely matter, but I don't think that it is fair to judge someone based on their looks. Our culture should strive to only evaluate a person based on their accomplishments and their kindness; this is the only way for society to be completely objective and without prejudice.
ReplyDeleteAgreed looks definitely matter. However society is what makes them matter. We ourselves have an instict I think even too hard for us to control to be attracted to pretty pleasing to the eye things. Therfore it does make sense that as people we would favor those who have nicer assets and looks.
ReplyDeleteI think they do. Do I think they should? No, but they do unfortunately. They matter a lot like you said. They matter because it does affect you kids in the future and it affects future plans.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting how appearances influence our opportunities in life and the people who give them to us. I wonder if all the attention to looks is wasted time or helpful to a person's future.
