Poverty in America

Poverty is a relative term. It can be different for many people. Not to mention people in poverty go through different struggles and have different life styles. The poverty line is about $24,000 a year for a family of 4. But, this doesn't take into account, location of cost of living. Someone living in Illinois in "poverty" could be much better off than someone in New York.

Just because someone is in poverty, does not mean that they are living on the street. A person could have a house and a car, but could be considered to be living in poverty. Many people need more help getting out of poverty but the government can only do so much.

I think there should be a bigger number of shelters for people to go to, in order to get the supplies they need, or have a roof over their head. Not to mention, some sort of health care to keep everyone in top health.

What do you think should be done about poverty in America?

  1. I agree. Poverty in America is a huge issue and the way the poverty line is drawn is not as useful as it could be.

  2. It really is crazy how bad the poverty line is, it doesn't take into account so many factors. Not to mention one mishap could absolutely ruin a family.
